“The Member of the Year nominees are those who have done the most for the homebuilding industry in our area over the past year,” Cox explained. “Bill really did that. He stepped forward on short notice with a site for the HomeShowExpo, and he worked with the city of West Des Moines, he encouraged builders to get involved, and he promoted the event with the public.”
HomeShowExpo 2010, which was located at Tuscany Village at Reed’s Crossing in West Des Moines, was one of the most successful HomeShowExpos in recent years, with eight of the nine homes sold to date. Kimberley Development, which had two homes in the show, received the People’s Choice Award, as well as six others, including Best Curb Appeal and Best Craftsmanship.
Bill Kimberley, President of Kimberley Development, has been in the custom home business for more than 30 years, specializing in move-up and executive level designs. As the housing market began to decline in 2007-2008, the company branched into new markets and neighborhoods, offering a new product line of starter homes.
“That really kept us going strong in a year when a lot of builders and developers were struggling,” Kimberley said. “The market is steadily coming back, but we’ve been fortunate here in Iowa. The market is doing much better here than in most of the country.”
Kimberley Development, based in Ankeny, has earned a reputation for excellence, evidenced by its numerous awards. The company has been voted Ankeny’s Best Builder by the Ankeny Press Citizen six years in a row. Kimberley developments are currently underway in Ankeny, West Des Moines, Johnston, Urbandale, Altoona and Grimes.
The Home Builders Association of Greater Des Moines, a trade association made up of about 500 members, provides a voice for the housing industry at the state, local and national levels.
