In past years trends were easy to identify by certain prints, color choices, and products. Rim Hamburgh, from The National, says this year’s trends are more fluid than ever, as they are suggestions and themes, rather than strict rules. Reinventing your space by blending classic pieces with trends, especially traditional, contemporary and rustic, will add to the eclectic nature of our interiors as well as evoke a style that’s unique to you.>
Blues, especially those that are dark, are everywhere this year. Blue is perfect for pairing with a range of colors, making it easy to add into your existing decor. Tip: Use the 60-30-10 Rule when deciding how much of a color to add to a room. 60% of a space should be the dominant color, 30% should represent a secondary color, and 10% of a color scheme is for an accent color.
Gold, copper, and bronze oh my! Mixing metals is making the rounds in homes for 2015. The use of different shades and tones creates a visually artistic design. Tip: Get the most impact by mixing cool metals like silver with warm metals like gold or bronze.
OUT: Matching every metal finish in a single room
Mid-century modern is one of the biggest up-and-coming design styles for 2015. Think ’50s to ’70s decor repurposed for today and used in moderation. Design experts have made it loud and clear that eclectic, multi-era decor is here to stay. Tip: Integrate modern elements sparingly so it doesn’t feel like you’ve walked into a home from a different era.
OUT: Mirrored furniture and matchy-matchy furniture pieces.
Hailed in the Wall Street Journal as one of the “top five interior design trends of 2015, painterly rugs embody the movement and flow of a painting. Tip: These rugs are meant to be standout pieces that work best as a focal point in a room. Faux wood ceramic tile flooring and patterned carpet continue to be popular flooring choices for 2015.
OUT: Shag carpet and rugs
Wallpaper is coming back strong from digital designs to textured wall coverings. This isn’t your grandmother’s wallpaper. Today’s new wallpaper is easier than ever to hang and remove. The new “paste the wall” wallpaper allows you to save plenty of time by cutting your installation time in half. When you’re ready to update your walls simply lift a corner at the base and peel it up to remove the entire wallpaper. Tip: A little can go a long way. Start with an accent wall to make sure you like it before taking on a whole room.

Our experience with Kimberley was very professional and personal at the same time. Everyone we dealt with through the whole process was very helpful. Dave, our superintendent, was great at keeping us informed during construction of our home. We really appreciated everyone involved–it made the process easy!Judy Klever | Ankeny
