Why Build in Central Iowa in 2021?


We love Des Moines, and we know you will too! Des Moines metro is a great place to live, work, and raise a family.

Des Moines has topped the charts in many top publications in recent years including Forbes magazine naming Des Moines the #1 city in the nation for business and careers, as well as the #1 place to raise a family. The Greater Des Moines metro has also been the fastest-growing city in the Midwest, growing 1.6% in 2018, according to population estimates released by the U.S. Census Bureau and the metropolitan area growing by 10,309 residents to a total of 655,409 residents as of July 1, 2018.

The growth to the Des Moines area has caused a need for housing across several socioeconomic levels. Because of this and the low interest levels that we saw this past year, the 2020 real estate industry saw a surge despite the pandemic. In September, the homes that were sold in the Des Moines market far outpaced the total from the year before. The Des Moines housing market saw a total of a 21% boost in September sales.

As we look forward to 2021, continued low mortgage rates and homebuyers to meet the housing demand means that new construction homes are providing buyers with options.

Build Des Moines wrote that based on the current sale pending counts, you can find the most single-family new construction homes under contract right now in these seven communities in the Des Moines metro:

  • Ankeny with 510 (+34% over last year)
  • Waukee with 218 (+15%)
  • West Des Moines with 144 (+12.5%)
  • Norwalk with 128 (+15%)
  • Urbandale with 123 (+11%)
  • Altoona with 121 (23.5%)
  • Grimes with 108 (+5%)

Ankeny:

Centennial Pointe

A Kimberley Development that is a family-friendly community on the northwest side of Ankeny. Located just north of Ankeny Centennial High School and the Prairie Ridge Sports Complex and just south of Rock Creek Elementary, this community is perfect for active families.
